研究内容
医療疫学分野では、冒頭の理念に基づき、医療に関する様々な疑問を科学的手法で検証する研究活動を行っています。この研究領域は、欧米ではアウトカム研究あるいは医療サービス研究といわれ、一言で定義するならば、医療提供のプロセス（過程）を、その環境や構造、また、もたらされる患者のアウトカム（成果）との文脈の中で総合的に理解していくためのものです。具体的には診療の質および診療のアウトカム（QOL 等の主観的アウトカムも含む）を定量的に評価し改善することを主なテーマに、臨床医学、疫学、統計学、計量心理学など様々な領域の理論や手法を総合して研究を行っています。
研究プロジェクトの例として、透析患者の米欧亜にまたがる国際的アウトカム研究（DOPPS）や、米国における高リスク老人の医療の質研究（ACOVE）に参加するなど、内外の様々な研究機関と提携した幅広い活動を行っています。
